WORKERS’ UNION MANIPUR OBSERVES 11TH FOUNDATION DAY

Imphal, April 29, 2017 (DIPR): The 11th Foundation Day of Workers’ Union Manipur (WUM) was observed at JNIMS, Conference Hall, Imphal today.

Speaking as the Chief Guest of the function, Shri Th. Shyamkumar, Minister of MAHUD, Town Planning, Forest & Environment, Horticulture and Soil Conservation, said that, the observation is held for the workers to be self sufficient and to be able to safeguard the economy of the State. He said most of the local population lack work ethics, discipline and are ashamed to take up physical and menial job. He also said that when he was sitting at the opposition bench, he raised up to the then present government about the usage of the funds from the labour cess which is 1 per cent. The Minister also said any worker holding Labour Department card can directly complain to him in case any worker is denied his/her benefits.

Minister Shyamkumar further said that, an awareness programme for the citizens is required so that they inculcate the habit of cleanliness. He also said all the citizens must co-operate with the workers who are involved in cleaning the city as well. He appealed to the youths of the state not to be ashamed of physical or menial job.

The Minister also said that, during his tenure as a Minister he will work sincerely and serve the people. Minister Shyamkumar said that, working hours should be divided shifts for efficient service. The Minister expressed his desire for the meira paibis to be more involved in the welfare of students in government schools. He said that, meira paibis should also lend their voices to get more students enrolled in government schools.

Floral tributes were paid to the three late members of the WUM and excellence awards were given to two outstanding workers of the union.

Professor Deben Laishram, Director JNIMS; Keithellakpam London, President Workers’ Union Manipur and Mutum Churamani, President LOUSAL also attended the function.
